The very sound was like a death knell.
Newly married…an aspiring career…dreams of a family.
What happened to her “happily ever after?”
Brittney says, “My story involves leukemia but its really about how God has been doing his work in my life and my family and friends’ lives.
GOD’S LOVE AND PROMISES
The cancer took over so quickly that the 2nd day into my chemo my body began to shut down. The cancer was on full attack and determined to take my life. I was put into a temporary paralysis. I spent 6 months in and out of the hospital with 4 bone marrow biopsies, 4 rounds of chemotherapy and a stem cell harvest.
This is when I began to realize that me getting cancer and going through the fight of my life had nothing to do with me and everything to do with everyone else. This fight is a true testimony of God’s love and promise to heal.
I can’t even begin to tell you the changes I have seen in my friends and my family. My husband and I pray more than ever now. We thank God daily for our health and each other. One of the biggest changes I have seen was in my mom. Now she sees the power of prayer, even in her every day life. With me overcoming such a huge obstacle in my life because of God, she now continues to believe that God is taking care of her as well. She is trusting Him and calling on Him for her obstacles.
I have learned that when you are going through pain or hurt or just plain hard times in your life this is the best time to lift up yourself to God and pray. Know that you just have to ask him to hold your hand and protect you.
As difficult and unfortunate as dealing with cancer was, I wouldn’t change a thing. I gained so much!
LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL
Being bald, showed me that hair was only superficial and you can still be beautiful. Having unconditional love and trust for the Lord means never giving up and knowing that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Thank-you so much to my friends, family and church family for being by my side and praying. If I did nothing else with my life, I really hope that my story would inspire you to become more aware of God’s power and how he shapes and molds us for His glory! I pray that each of you would grow to know how magnificent God is and how much more satisfying our lives are when we trust where God is taking us with the curves that come up in our life.”
Brittney was the 2011 Honoured Hero for the Light the Night campaign to raise funds for leukemia research.
Brittney is now 6 years cancer free!
Brittney was told there was only a 5% chance of being able to have children after her treatments. She and her husband Daryl now have two sons – Xander and Ezra.
THE POTTERY WHEEL AND LIFE
Does your life feel like its spinning out of control?
Are circumstances pounding and pressuring you?
Do you feel like a lump of clay on a potter’s wheel?
The Bible illustrates life through the experience of a potter.
Jeremiah 18:2 – “I saw the potter working at the wheel…the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.”
To know how faith in God works is to understand how a potter works:
- The potter is in control.
- The potter has a plan.
- The potter is gentle and patient.
- The potter makes something to reflect his magnificence.
Britt is hope on two legs. Her recovery from leukemia is an incredible story.
Years ago she sat in my office – scared, devastated about cancer – and now, in September 2018, she is running 100km in an ultra run.
So happy for you, Brit.
